As usual, I get out early for a look around and what a contrast to the previous day!

Fisheries Protection

Fisheries Protection

It's just after 7am and quite a few boats leave the harbour, including a Fisheries Protection vessel.

Sunrise East Pier

Sunrise at Whitby

On the east coast you can get some great sunrise opportunties, I aquired a book of fine photos by Mark Denton - all taken on the east coast of Yorkshire. Available from all good charity shops.

Quayside at Whitby

The Quayside

After breakfast, we leave the car at the B&B and go for a walk. This is the view as we crossed the swing bridge. I wonder what it might look like at night?

Now usually, I will look for an opportunity to walk without the sun directly ahead, but today it made sense to walk in a southerly direction for lunch at Robin Hood's Bay, rather than bus it to RHB and walk back for a later lunch in our holiday town.

The Scar, Whitby

The Scar

On the route of the Cleveland Way and heading for Robin Hood's Bay, about seven miles from Whitby centre. The first headland is called "The Scar".

Featuring self-catering accomodation via "Rural Retreats".

The East Coast

The East Coast

This is all new to this "westerner", indeed we very rarely visit the west coast close to home because it's generally not too appealing (in the writer's opinion).

A pretty bird and Mrs. R on the Cleveland Way.

Old Railway Line Rocket Pole
Whitby to Scarborough Line
Rocket Post

The disused line from Whitby to Scarborough is open to walkers and cyclists, 21 miles of National Cycle Route No.1. The Rocket Post was one of many on this coastline, lines were fired to floundering ships and sailors were rescued by a "breeches buoy".

Into Robin Hood's Bay

Into Robin Hood's Bay

There is a public footpath down to the bay area, or you can follow the track to the road and down the very steep descent to the village.

The end of the Coast-to-Coast Walk is marked by a new plaque on the wall. The C-C walk is not for me, you need to take proper holidays or be retired, neither applies to the writer!

Bus to Whitby

Bus Back to Whitby

We shocked and stunned the driver by paying for our journey, unlike the other nine passengers joining the bus at this stop. Back in Whitby, Karen went looking at shops or something like that and I headed for the railway station.

Refreshment Review: The Old Bakery in Robin Hood's Bay is a pleasant unassuming cafe, half-way down the hill. There are plenty of other opportunities for sustenence in RHB.
